Curriculum Director
I have a Bachelors in Biology from Georgia Southern University, Special Education Certification from State University of West Georgia, and a Masters in Human Services Counseling (Criminal Justice) from Liberty University. I started my career out of college as an Environmental Health Specialist with the State of Georgia. After over 6 years with the Department of Human Resources, I switched gears and began my teaching career. I chose to work in the field of Special Education because I believe that every student can learn given a supportive environment and tools with which to learn. After my first two years of teaching, it became apparent that students with behavioral difficulties were my specialty. I chose to transition from the classroom to the position of Special Education Director at the Paulding Regional Youth Detention Center. As the Special Education Director, it was my job to write, implement, and manage all of the IEPs for all of the special education students in the facility. In addition to this task, I was also responsible for the supervision of the special education teachers as well as providing support to general education teachers and other staff. I left the Paulding RYDC after 18 months in order to have my second baby. It was at this time that I decided to be a stay at home mom. Soon after that decision, I gave birth to baby number three.
I have three sons whom I have homeschooled for 13 years. I began homeschooling my children when my oldest son was 5 years old. Over the last 13 years, I have implemented and researched a number of different curriculums and homeschool approaches. I learned that one size doesn’t fit all kids and that more times than not, late is better than early.
When I’m not teaching, I love spending time with my kids, hiking, reading, gardening, and hanging with my 4 dogs.
